Vice Minister Chen Xiaohua met with Mr. Dan Jørgensen, Minister for Food, Agriculture and Fisheries (FVM) of Denmark in Copenhagen on June 23, 2014. The two sides discussed the exchange and cooperation on agricultural S&T, livestock production and veterinary service, agri-product quality and safety, agricultural trade and sustainable development between China and Denmark.

At the meeting, Chen noted that China and Denmark are highly complementary to each other in agriculture, and the two sides have been deepening cooperation and expanding trade in agriculture in recent years. Thus, agricultural cooperation has become an important component of the bilateral economic and trade relationship between the two nations.

To further deepen practical agricultural cooperation between China and Denmark, Chen put forward the following proposals:

First, the two sides will promote and support collaborative research; |

Second, the two sides will strengthen exchange and cooperation on policies and technologies for agri-product quality and safety, animal disease control, and regulation over animal drugs and veterinary biologics;

Third, the two sides will give full play to the role of relevant service institutions and industrial associations which serve as bridges of cooperation between China and Denmark, and support cooperation between small and medium-sized agribusinesses from two countries; and

Fourth, the two sides will organize activities for communication on biomass-energy policies, standards and technologies for sound development of biomass-energy industry.

Jørgensen fully agreed with Chen on the above proposals. He stated that Denmark is willing to work with China to advance bilateral agricultural cooperation.

During Chen's visit to Denmark, Chen and Jørgensen attended and addressed the Fifth Sino-Danish Roundtable Conference on Pig Industry. In their speeches at the Conference, both stressed further intensifying cooperation in livestock sector, including cooperation between pig farms or researchers from both countries and improvement of China's pig breeding system.
